Devon Reed began singing at 17 years old. Over the next four years, Devon took voice lessons, performed in choir, talent shows, karaoke, sang the national anthem at high school, and auditioned for music shows (like American Idol). However, he didn’t have a clear vision at the time. In fact, he realized he was singing for all the wrong reasons. Wanting only fame and attention, he didn’t even want to put in the effort needed in order to succeed in not only singing, but actually have a career in the music business. Devon Reed gave it up and didn’t want anything to do with music. Barely listening to new music, Devon walked away from the singing dreams for a long time. With no direction, he found a love for writing. He first realized he had a natural gift for creative writing when he started sharing his battles with mental health. Speaking truths that were under the rug from the world and most his peers, Devon Reed shared his difficulties with accepting his learning disabilities while growing up. He shared his thoughts, feelings, and questions that he kept to himself during these times. Devon received extremely positive feedback from not just family and loved ones, but friends, and random acquaintances who were unaware of his prior demons. After a 9-year hiatus from music, Devon Reed (by now 30 years old) decided to try a fun new hobby: Songwriting. He had no hopes or even any intention of this going anywhere other than to express himself in his own spare time. About another year after that, a 31-year old Devon Reed found out… THIS IS IT! This is what he wants to do in this life. Be a songwriter and, sing once again. Devon can absolutely say now that his passion is music. But this time, it’s for all the right reasons! Now with clear vision of telling his story, Devon Reed feels this is God giving him a second chance at life.
